We Finished Their Bathroom – and Immediately Wanted It for Ourselves
A complete bathroom renovation before and after.
The trouble with creating someone else’s dream bathroom is that sometimes it becomes your dream bathroom too.
This one definitely did.
We already knew the customers, which made the project feel more personal from the beginning. They trusted us to completely rethink their bathroom and create something warmer, more modern and very different from the room they had before.
There was another reason this project became so memorable: their amazing iced coffees.
They kept the team going through the renovation and were apparently good enough to make Karolina, usually behind the scenes managing quotations and schedules, find a surprising number of reasons to visit the site!
The coffee got us through the messy stages. The finished bathroom made us want to stay.
The Bathroom Before We Started
The original bathroom was functional, but it felt dated and divided.
It had a bath on one side and a separate enclosed shower in another section. The layout broke up the room and made it feel smaller and more awkward than it really was.
This wasn’t going to be a simple case of replacing the old suite. The room needed a complete rethink.
The plan was to remove the bath and enclosed cubicle, create one spacious walk-in shower and turn the bathroom into a warmer, more luxurious space.
First, however, we had to make it look considerably worse.
Then Came the Messy Part
The bath, shower, sanitary ware and old finishes were stripped out. Plumbing had to be altered, new electrical work was completed, and the walls and floor were carefully prepared.
For a while, it looked less like a dream bathroom and more like a room where a bathroom used to be.
This is the stage that rarely appears in the beautiful finished photographs, but it is where some of the most important work happens.
The shower area needed proper boarding and waterproof tanking, while the concealed toilet boxing and illuminated niche had to be carefully built before any of the decorative finishes could be installed.
It wasn’t glamorous, but the finished bathroom depended on getting every hidden detail right.
Thankfully, there was iced coffee.
The Moment Everything Started to Change
The real turning point came when the warm wood-effect slatted panels started going onto the walls.
Suddenly, we could see the finished design coming together.
The panels continued through the walk-in shower, around the concealed toilet and across the made-to-measure boxing. This connected the different areas and turned what had previously felt like awkward shapes into intentional design features.
Then the illuminated shower niche was switched on.
The warm light brought out the natural tones in the panels and completely changed the atmosphere of the room. It was practical storage, but it also became one of the bathroom’s biggest wow-factor features.
The brushed-brass shower, trims and accessories added warmth, while the soft stone-coloured floor tiles kept everything feeling light.
A wall-mounted vanity made the room feel more open, and the round illuminated mirror created a softer glow.
We also installed underfloor heating beneath the tiled floor. It may be the only luxury feature that cannot be seen in the photographs, but it will probably be one of the most appreciated on a cold Wiltshire morning.
The Finished Bathroom
At the end of a renovation, there is always a moment when the tools are removed, the final details are finished and the lights are switched on.
Only then do you stop seeing separate jobs such as plumbing, boarding, wiring and fitting, and finally see the room as a whole.
This bathroom barely resembled the one we started with.
The divided layout had become an open, calm and luxurious space. Every awkward section had found a purpose, and the combination of slatted panels, warm lighting and brushed-brass details gave the room a personality of its own.
It didn’t look like a standard bathroom chosen from a catalogue. It felt carefully considered and completely personal.
We began the project excited to create the customers’ dream bathroom.
We finished it realising we had created ours too.
The only slight problem is that if we ever build the same bathroom in our own home, we will have to make the iced coffees ourselves.
